Turkish Airlines Online Check-In and Boarding Pass
Turkish Airlines lets you check in through its website, its mobile app, the airport's self-service kiosks or the check-in counters. Online check-in opens 24 hours before departure and closes well before departure time, leaving a specific window you should not miss. This page covers the schedule, how to get your boarding pass, baggage drop, and the situations where online check-in does not work.

Turkish Airlines rules at a glance
| Online check-in opens | 24 hours before departureonline/mobile check-in |
|---|---|
| Online check-in closes | 45 minutes before departureself-service kiosks, domestic flights (60 minutes for international flights) |
When to check in: opening and cutoff times
Turkish Airlines online check-in opens 24 hours before departure, meaning the day before for most long-haul flights departing from France. According to the airline's published information, it then closes 90 minutes before departure for the website and app.
At the airport, the different channels do not all close at the same time:
| Channel | Opens | Closes |
|---|---|---|
| Website and app | 24 hours before departure | 90 minutes before departure |
| Self-service kiosks | when counters open | 45 minutes before departure |
| Check-in counter | usually a few hours before the flight, depending on the airport | varies by airport and flight |
These cutoff times depend on the airport and the type of flight, and some stopover airports enforce stricter deadlines. Always go by the time shown on your booking and allow some margin: once check-in closes, your seat can be reassigned.
Checking in online or through the app
According to Turkish Airlines, to check in online you enter your booking reference (PNR) and last name on the dedicated screen, either on the website or in the mobile app. The site is available in French (fr-fr), as is the app, and the language can be changed from the country selector.
Online check-in lets you choose your seat, though some seats remain chargeable depending on your fare and cabin.
A few situations fall outside the online channel and must be handled at the counter: infant on lap, passenger with reduced mobility, animal in the cabin, group booking, a ticket bought through a third party that the system cannot retrieve, or a destination requiring prior document checks. For these cases, the airline directs passengers to its staff at the airport.
Mobile or printed boarding pass
After checking in online, Turkish Airlines states that you can send your mobile boarding pass to your phone and print it. It also remains accessible from the manage-booking section.
If you check in at a kiosk, the boarding pass is printed on the spot. At the counter, it is handed to you by the agent. Some airports and authorities still require a paper version or a stamp before the security checkpoint, particularly for destinations outside the European Union: when in doubt, printing one avoids having to turn back.
A boarding pass is only valid for the flight and name shown on it. If your flight, time or seat changes, the old boarding pass becomes void and check-in must be done again.
At the airport: baggage drop, documents and checks
The airline recommends arriving at the airport 2 hours before departure for domestic flights and 3 hours before departure for international flights, to allow time for baggage and security checks. At peak times, this margin is not excessive.
If you checked in online with no checked baggage, you can head straight to the boarding gate. With a bag to check in, go to the baggage drop counter, which usually closes earlier than online check-in: check the time posted at your departure airport.
Checked baggage allowance and cabin baggage depend on your fare, cabin, route and Miles&Smiles status; the details are shown on your ticket. For check-in at the counter, the airline asks passengers to present your ID card (driving licence, marriage certificate), your passport and the special documents concerning you (medical report, discount, etc.) to the counter staff. Your passport, visa and travel authorizations remain your responsibility, even after a successful online check-in.
Check-in not working: what to do
An error message when trying to complete check-in does not always mean there is a problem with your ticket. The most common causes are:
- the window has not opened yet, or it has already closed for the online channel;
- the PNR entered is the travel agency's reference rather than the airline's;
- the flight is operated by a codeshare partner, in which case check-in must be done on the operating carrier's website;
- a document check is required before departure;
- the booking includes an infant, an animal, or special assistance.
In these cases, the self-service kiosk or the counter at the airport can take over; Turkish Airlines' call centre can also check your booking. If you would rather not have to watch for the opening window yourself, iBoardingPass can complete online check-in on your behalf as soon as it opens and send you the boarding pass by email.
Other airlines and partners
Turkish Airlines carries many connecting passengers with its subsidiary and its Star Alliance partners, whose check-in rules differ from its own:
- AJet check-in, the group's low-cost airline
- Aegean check-in for flights via Athens
- Air Canada boarding pass for transatlantic connections
- ANA's rules departing from Japan
- Asiana Airlines check-in to Seoul
