Smartwings: Online Check-In and Boarding Pass

Smartwings (code TVS) links Prague and several Central European cities to the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, Egypt and the Gulf, with a significant share of charter flights operated on behalf of tour operators. Check-in is done online through the My Booking section of the airline's website, starting 30 hours before departure before departure. This page brings together the deadlines, how to get your boarding pass, and the points where travellers most often get caught out.

Smartwings rules at a glance

Online check-in opens30 hours before departureAmbiguous: the sentence may refer to either the opening or the closing limit of online check-in

When Smartwings check-in opens and closes

The airline states that check-in is available up to 30 hours before departure before departure. This wording, as it appears on the Smartwings website, frames the window during which you can check in online for your flight.

In practice, an airline's online check-in closes several hours before takeoff, and the exact window can vary depending on the departure airport and whether the flight is scheduled or chartered for a tour operator. The safest approach is to handle your check-in the day before departure rather than on the morning of the flight, and to double-check the time shown on your booking confirmation.

At the airport, counters close before the displayed departure time, and the closing time depends on the airport: check the one listed on your booking. At major Mediterranean airports during peak season, allow plenty of time, as baggage drop and security queues are the real bottleneck.

Checking in online: what you need on hand

Check-in is done through the My Booking section, accessible from the airline's website. You need to log in using your booking reference or e-ticket number, plus the passenger's name.

IdentifierFormat
Booking referencesix characters, letters and/or digits
Ticket number13 digits, prefix 064

Smartwings notes that both appear on the ticket or itinerary, and that on a ticket bought directly on its website they appear in the top left corner, under the logo. If your ticket was bought through an agency or tour operator, the booking reference may follow a different format: in that case, use the ticket number to log in instead.

A common situation on charter flights sold as part of a package: the booking is managed by the tour operator, and online access may be limited or check-in may already be handled by the organiser. If the My Booking section does not recognise your record, the contact to reach out to is whoever issued the ticket.

The same section is also used to complete passenger details, choose a seat, add a bag, or order a meal ahead of the flight.

The Smartwings boarding pass

Once check-in is confirmed, the boarding pass is issued electronically, to be shown on a phone or printed out. It carries your name, flight number, expected gate and assigned seat.

Some airports, particularly outside the Schengen area, still require a paper document or a travel document check at the counter before allowing passengers through the security checkpoint. Check the entry requirements for your destination before departure, and if in doubt, go to the counter even if you are already checked in.

The gate printed on the boarding pass is only indicative. Rely on the airport screens, which remain accurate up to the last moment.

Baggage and getting through the airport

Online check-in does not remove the need to drop off checked baggage. Expect a dedicated bag drop counter, whose closing time matches that of standard check-in, or can be even stricter during busy periods.

The baggage allowance depends on the fare purchased and, for charter flights, on the contract arranged by the tour operator. Smartwings allows you to order an extra bag in advance through My Booking; full pricing details are listed in the airline's excess baggage and additional fees policy on its website. Sports equipment (bikes, golf bags, skis) must also be declared in advance.

For cabin baggage, stick to the dimensions and weight stated on your booking: boarding staff check bag sizes, and an oversized bag will be sent to the hold for a fee.

When things go wrong

Misspelled name or first and last names swapped: do not try to fix it yourself at the last minute, contact Smartwings customer service or the issuing agency, since a name change goes through them and may be charged.

No seat assigned after check-in: this is common when no paid seat selection was made, in which case a seat is assigned automatically, sometimes only at boarding.

Boarding pass not received by email: check your spam folder, then log back into My Booking to download it again. Unaccompanied minors, reduced mobility assistance, pets in the cabin: these cases are handled at the counter, as online check-in does not cover them.

Missed check-in: go to the counter as soon as possible. A passenger arriving after the counter has closed is considered a no-show, with no refund under most fare types.

Other airlines apply similar rules, with their own deadlines: see for example easyJet check-in, Eurowings check-in procedures, the French Bee boarding pass, Jet2 check-in or Norwegian check-in times. iBoardingPass can carry out your online check-in as soon as it opens and send you your boarding pass by email.

Frequently asked questions

When can I check in for a Smartwings flight?

Smartwings states that check-in is available up to 30 hours before departure before departure. Since this window can vary depending on the airport and the type of flight, scheduled or charter, check the exact time shown on your booking and avoid leaving it until the morning of departure.

Where can I find my Smartwings booking reference or ticket number?

Both appear on the ticket or itinerary. On a ticket bought directly on the airline's website, they show up in the top left corner, under the logo. The ticket number has 13 digits and starts with 064; the booking reference is a combination of six letters and/or digits. For a ticket bought elsewhere, log in using the ticket number instead.

Do I still need to go to the counter if I'm checked in online?

Yes, if you have checked baggage, which must be dropped off at the bag drop counter before it closes. This is also necessary at airports where travel documents are checked at the counter before the security checkpoint; check the specific entry requirements for your destination.

Where can I see the fees related to Smartwings check-in and services?

The airline's website groups these amounts under the sections covering additional service fees and the excess baggage policy. The applicable conditions depend on your fare and, on a chartered flight, on the contract arranged by the tour operator.

My Smartwings flight was booked through a tour operator, how do I check in?

On charter flights sold as part of a package, the booking is often managed by the organiser, and online access may be restricted. If My Booking cannot find your record using the ticket number, contact the tour operator who issued the tickets.

Can I choose my seat during check-in?

Seat selection is a service offered through My Booking before the flight. Without an advance selection, a seat is assigned automatically, sometimes only at boarding, and passengers on the same booking are not always seated together.
