Mauritania Airlines Check-In and Boarding Pass
Mauritania Airlines (code L6), the Mauritanian flag carrier based in Nouakchott, offers online check-in as well as self-service check-in kiosks at the airport. On its domestic routes linking Nouakchott, Nouadhibou and Zouerate, the airline has asked passengers to arrive at check-in two hours before departure time. This page brings together what you need to know before you fly: deadlines, getting your boarding pass, baggage rules and situations that can hold up the process.

When check-in opens and when it closes
Mauritania Airlines does not publish a detailed timetable for its online check-in. In practice, on this type of regional network, the window usually opens the day before departure and closes several hours before takeoff: check the exact time shown on your booking or confirmation email.
At the airport, the only deadline the airline has explicitly communicated concerns its domestic flights between Nouakchott, Nouadhibou and Zouerate, in a schedule change notice: "Please arrive at flight check-in 02 hours before departure time." For international flights departing from Nouakchott, notably to Casablanca, Dakar, Abidjan, Bamako, Brazzaville or Jeddah and Medina, allow at least as much time, if not more: document and security checks tend to run long during peak hours.
Check-in counters close before departure time, at an hour that depends on the airport and destination: the exact time is shown on your ticket. A passenger who arrives after the flight has closed will be refused boarding, even with a valid ticket.
Online check-in and self-service kiosks
The airline offers two complementary channels, grouped under the heading "Online Check-In / Self-Service Check-In Kiosks."
| Channel | Where | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Online check-in | Airline website | Requires the booking reference (PNR) and passenger name exactly as they appear on the ticket |
| Self-service kiosk | At the terminal, depending on airport equipment | Useful when online check-in is not available for your flight |
| Check-in counter | Departure airport | Required stop to drop off checked baggage |
Mauritania Airlines does not advertise a dedicated mobile app for check-in. The availability of online check-in can vary depending on the departure airport, ticket type and destination: some flights, particularly on the Mauritanian domestic network (Nouadhibou, Zouerate) or to stopovers where the airline does not handle its own ground services, may only be processed at the counter.
Getting and using your boarding pass
Once check-in has been completed online, the boarding pass is normally sent by email or available for download as a PDF. A printed copy remains a useful precaution across Mauritania Airlines' network, as several served airports check the paper document at the entrance to the security area.
Before departure, check that the name printed matches your passport exactly, along with the flight number, gate and boarding time. In the event of a schedule change, and the airline has already announced some on its domestic routes, a previously issued boarding pass may need to be reissued.
On international flights, travel documents (passport, visa, forms required by the destination country) are checked at the counter. For passengers travelling to or from Abidjan, for example, the airline states that the travel declaration form must be printed and presented at check-in. It also reminds travellers that it is their own responsibility to find out about entry and exit requirements and to carry the necessary documents.
Baggage: what check-in changes
On its international network, Mauritania Airlines has applied the so-called piece concept since November 2017: three bags of 3 bags of 23 kg in Business, 2 bags of 23 kg in Economy (international flights); 30 kg (Business) and 20 kg (Economy) for domestic flights kg each in Business class, two bags of 3 bags of 23 kg in Business, 2 bags of 23 kg in Economy (international flights); 30 kg (Business) and 20 kg (Economy) for domestic flights kg each in Economy class. On domestic flights, the allowance is expressed as total weight: 30 kg in Business class and 20 kg in Economy class.
For any extra baggage, fees apply depending on the route. These are paid at the airline counter, even if you have already checked in online.
Checking in online does not remove the need to drop off checked baggage: get to the baggage counter with enough time to spare, as queues in Nouakchott can be heavy when morning flights open.
Common issues and solutions
- Online check-in will not open or rejects the PNR: the flight may not be eligible from that airport, or the details entered do not match the ticket. In this case, the counter remains the standard route.
- Booking made through a travel agency: have the reference number shown on the ticket issued by the airline ready.
- Infant, special baggage, passenger with reduced mobility, group booking: these cases are generally handled at the counter, regardless of online check-in availability.
- Schedule or programme change: domestic network timetables have already been changed by airline notice, so check your flight the day before.
- Health or documentation checks on arrival: several served destinations require forms or certificates, which should be prepared before you arrive at check-in.
If you would rather not track the check-in opening yourself, iBoardingPass can complete online check-in on your behalf as soon as the airline opens it and send you the boarding pass by email.
