MIAT Mongolian Airlines Check-in and Boarding Pass
MIAT Mongolian Airlines (code OM) offers online check-in through its website, under the Online Check-in section, alongside airport counters. The airline asks passengers to arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure for international flights, a deadline that also governs baggage drop-off and police formalities. This page brings together the schedules, required documents and key points to watch for MIAT flights from Ulaanbaatar to Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing, Frankfurt or Istanbul.

When MIAT check-in opens and closes
MIAT Mongolian Airlines opens online check-in several hours before departure, usually the day before or on the day of the flight depending on the route and airport; the exact time depends on your flight and is displayed once you enter your booking reference. Allow plenty of time: check-in closes well before take-off, and once online check-in has ended, only the counter can still accept you.
At the airport, the airline asks passengers to arrive 3 hours before departure for an international flight, and two hours before a domestic flight, to leave time for customs control, baggage check-in and immigration formalities. Counters at Ulaanbaatar (Chinggis Khaan International Airport) close before the scheduled departure time: aim to arrive earlier rather than later, and check the cut-off time shown on your booking.
MIAT states that if a passenger does not arrive within the required time frame, or presents insufficient or invalid documents, leaving a seat unused, penalties and service fees apply in line with its regulations.
Checking in online, on the website or app
Online check-in is launched from the homepage of the airline's official website, via the Online Check-in button, or from the MIAT mobile app. You will generally need the booking reference (PNR) or ticket number, along with the surname exactly as it appears on the booking.
A few situations cannot be handled through the online channel and must be sorted out at the counter or with the airline's customer service: special assistance (wheelchair support, pregnant passengers, oxygen, service animals), oversized baggage, unaccompanied minors, or tickets issued by another airline on a connecting itinerary. For special assistance, MIAT asks passengers to inform its agents when booking the ticket or, at the latest, the day before departure.
A cabin class change must be requested through the airline's call centre, well before departure, by phone or email according to MIAT's public information.
Boarding pass: format, seat and checks
Once check-in is confirmed, the boarding pass is issued in electronic format (email or app) or printed at the counter. At some departure airports outside Mongolia, local rules or immigration requirements may make a counter visit necessary to obtain a paper pass and have documents stamped: check this point at the airport concerned.
Seat selection depends on the seats still available at the time of check-in. The ticket is personal: MIAT states that a ticket transferred to another person or altered is considered invalid and will not be accepted for travel or for a refund, so the name on the boarding pass must match the passport exactly.
Travel documents required by MIAT
The airline reminds passengers that they are responsible for preparing and carrying all documents required by the destination country and any transit countries: valid passport, national ID card, visa or visa waiver, health certificates and vaccination record where applicable. The passport must be in good condition and signed by its holder.
Without the necessary documents, the carrier may deny boarding, and entry may be refused at destination or in transit; MIAT accepts no responsibility for the consequences of such situations. Passengers must present themselves at the airport check-in counter with all these valid documents.
If your connecting flight is operated by another airline, MIAT recommends checking beforehand, through its website, whether that carrier has an interline agreement with it.
Baggage: what matters before the counter
Carry-on baggage must fit under the seat or in the overhead bin. On international flights, it must not exceed 8 kg or 85 cm in total dimensions, including handles and wheels; on domestic flights, the limit is lower, both in weight and in combined dimensions.
| Flight | Cabin weight | Total dimensions |
|---|---|---|
| International | 8 kg | 85 cm |
| Domestic | see booking | see booking |
For checked baggage, if your allowance includes more than one piece, if a single piece exceeds 32 kg on an international flight, or if the bag is particularly large based on the sum of its three dimensions, MIAT asks you to check in advance with your ticket's point of sale that the bag can be accepted. Beyond the allowance in number, size or weight, transport remains possible on payment of the excess baggage fees published by the airline.
Even with online check-in, checked baggage still requires a visit to the drop-off counter. If you would rather not track the opening of check-in yourself, iBoardingPass can complete online check-in on your behalf as soon as it opens and send you your boarding pass by email.
Common issues and other airlines in the region
Is online check-in rejecting your PNR? This can happen when the ticket was issued by a tour operator or another airline, when the flight is operated under a codeshare, or when the booking includes a special service request. The MIAT call centre, available around the clock, or the ticket's point of sale can handle these cases.
Cancelling or requesting a refund before travel begins incurs service fees; discounted or special fares may not allow any change to the booking or travel date, so conditions should be checked with the point of sale. Also keep in mind that the ticket must be used in the order shown, starting from the first point of departure.

Frequently asked questions
When can I check in online with MIAT Mongolian Airlines?
Online check-in opens several hours before departure, usually the day before or on the day of the flight depending on the route. The exact time appears once you enter your booking reference on the MIAT website or app. If in doubt, plan for the shorter window and check in as soon as the system allows it.
What time should I get to the airport for a MIAT flight?
The airline asks passengers to arrive 3 hours before departure for an international flight and two hours before a domestic flight, to allow time for customs control, ticket and baggage check-in, then immigration formalities.
What happens if I arrive too late or without the right documents?
If you do not arrive within the required time frame, or if your documents are insufficient or invalid, leaving a seat unused, MIAT applies the penalties and service fees set out in its rules. The carrier may also deny boarding if required documents, such as a visa or health certificate, are missing.
Can I use a boarding pass on my phone?
The boarding pass issued after online check-in can be used in electronic format. Some departure airports or immigration checks may still require a visit to the MIAT counter to have documents stamped or to get a printed pass.
What are MIAT's carry-on baggage limits?
On international flights, carry-on baggage must not exceed 8 kg or 85 cm in total dimensions, including handles and wheels. On domestic flights, the limit is lower, so check the figure shown on your booking.
Do I need to notify the airline if my checked bag is heavy or oversized?
Yes. If a single piece exceeds 32 kg on an international flight, if the bag is oversized based on its combined dimensions, or if your allowance includes several pieces, MIAT asks you to check in advance with your ticket's point of sale that the bag can be accepted.
How do I request special assistance or change cabin class?
Special assistance should be arranged with the airline's agents when booking the ticket, or at the latest the day before departure. A cabin class change must be requested through the MIAT call centre well ahead of the scheduled departure time.
