airBaltic Online Check-In and Boarding Pass

airBaltic opens online check-in 48 hours before departure for nearly its entire network, whether you're flying out of Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Paris or Nice. Closing times, however, aren't the same everywhere: they depend on the airport and travel class, and they apply equally to online check-in and airport counters. This page brings together the deadlines, how the boarding pass works, and the situations that require a visit to the check-in desk.

When airBaltic check-in opens and closes

Online check-in becomes available 48 hours before departure of the scheduled departure. On an itinerary combining airBaltic with another carrier, or on a codeshare flight operated by a different airline, the carrier recommends starting the process only the day before departure: the opening time above doesn't apply to those tickets.

On the closing side, airBaltic applies the same cut-off times to online check-in and counter check-in. At airports without a specific rule, the deadline is set at 40 minutes before departure for economy class and 30 minutes before departure for business class. Some stations are stricter: at Amsterdam Schiphol, for instance, check-in closes earlier and the same tighter deadline applies to both classes, while Alicante, Antalya, Athens and Barcelona follow the standard pattern.

These figures are the ones published by the airline for the stations listed; check the exact time shown on your booking, especially outside Europe, and always work from the local time at your departure airport.

Checking in online or via the airBaltic app

Online check-in with airBaltic is done through the Check-in section of the airline's website, using the booking reference and passenger name, or through the airBaltic mobile app. The process covers nearly every destination on the network. Seat selection, however, may come at a cost depending on the fare purchased.

Online check-in isn't open to every passenger profile. airBaltic states that it may be unavailable for certain categories of travelers due to regulatory or security requirements, and that these passengers must then check in at the airport counter.

A check-in that's already been completed can be cancelled online, which comes in handy if you need to change flights or correct passenger details. After cancelling, you'll need to go through the process again to get a new boarding pass.

airBaltic boarding pass: accepted formats

Once check-in is complete, airBaltic issues a boarding pass either as a PDF to print or as a mobile boarding pass with a QR code, which can be added to Wallet or PassWallet. The airline requires a printed or mobile boarding pass to be shown before the security checkpoint and at the gate.

Not every airport necessarily accepts the same formats: airBaltic publishes, station by station, which formats are allowed. For the stations detailed above (Alicante, Amsterdam, Antalya, Athens, Barcelona), both the printed PDF and the mobile pass are accepted.

If your boarding pass doesn't arrive by email, start by checking your spam folder and the email address saved on the booking; the document also remains available from the booking management area and the app. Connecting flights follow their own logic: depending on the itinerary, boarding passes for both legs may be issued together, or only at the first counter.

Baggage, check-in desk and boarding at the airport

Checking in online doesn't exempt you from visiting the baggage drop-off if you're traveling with checked luggage. The baggage drop-off desk closes at the same time as check-in, meaning 40 minutes before departure for economy class at airports without a specific listing, and earlier wherever the airline applies a tighter deadline, as at Amsterdam.

The baggage allowance depends on the airBaltic fare purchased and any options added to the booking: cabin baggage, its weight and dimensions, as well as the number of checked bags, vary from one ticket to another. Check the baggage line on your confirmation before you travel rather than relying on a general rule.

Boarding with airBaltic is done in groups. The gate closes before the displayed departure time: a valid boarding pass doesn't guarantee access if you arrive after it closes. The airline also flags specific conditions at Tel Aviv airport, worth checking before departure.

Common issues and other airlines

A few situations come up often: travel documents that need to be checked (passport or ID card validity, a visa required by the destination) can require a visit to the counter, where the agent verifies your documents before issuing the boarding pass.

If online check-in rejects your booking for no apparent reason, check that the flight is actually operated by airBaltic: legs operated by a partner airline are handled through that operating carrier's own website. Check in as early as possible; once the deadline has passed, only the airline can rebook you.

For those who'd rather not keep track of check-in opening times themselves, iBoardingPass checks in on the traveler's behalf as soon as it opens and sends the boarding pass by email.

Flying on other networks too? Rules differ quite a bit from one airline to the next: see Aegean's check-in deadlines, Aer Lingus's online procedure, or the rules applied by Aeroitalia.

Frequently asked questions

When does airBaltic online check-in open?

It opens 48 hours before departure of the scheduled departure. For an itinerary combining airBaltic with another airline, or for a codeshare flight operated by a different carrier, the airline recommends starting the day before departure.

What time does airBaltic check-in close?

At airports without a specific rule, check-in closes 40 minutes before departure for economy class and 30 minutes before departure for business class. These times apply both online and at the counter, and some stations like Amsterdam Schiphol close earlier.

Until when can I drop off checked baggage?

Baggage drop-off follows the station's check-in closing time: 40 minutes before departure for economy class at airports without a specific listing. Wherever airBaltic applies a tighter deadline, arrive earlier.

Can I use a boarding pass on my phone?

Yes, airBaltic issues a mobile boarding pass with a QR code that can be added to Wallet or PassWallet, as well as a printable PDF. Accepted formats are, however, published on an airport-by-airport basis.

Why isn't online check-in available for me?

airBaltic states that online check-in may be unavailable for certain categories of passengers due to regulatory or security requirements. In that case, check-in must be completed at the airport, at the airline's counter.

How do I cancel a check-in I've already completed?

airBaltic lets you cancel online check-in from your booking management area. You'll then need to go through the process again to get a valid boarding pass for the new flight or with the corrected details.

Do I need to check in separately for each leg of a connecting flight?

It depends on the itinerary. On a single airBaltic ticket, boarding passes for both legs may be issued together; with a connection involving another airline, a stop at the counter may still be necessary.
