CityJet Online Check-In: Where to Get Your Boarding Pass

CityJet is an Irish carrier based at Dublin Airport that operates a fleet of CRJ regional jets on behalf of other European airlines. In practice, your ticket is almost never a CityJet ticket: it is issued by the airline whose flight number appears on your booking, and that is the airline you need to check in with. This page explains how to make sense of it all, which airline to contact for your boarding pass, and which deadlines to watch before departure.

A flight "operated by CityJet": who handles your check-in?

CityJet carries out its flights under wet lease agreements: the airline supplies the aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance, while the client airline sells the ticket and remains responsible for the passenger relationship. CityJet's own website is clear on this point: all CityJet flights are now operated under wet lease arrangements on behalf of a client airline, for example SAS, and passengers must check in directly with that airline, either on its website or at the airport. CityJet states that it does not provide a check-in service for these flights.

In other words, there is no CityJet online check-in page, nor any CityJet app issuing a boarding pass. Your starting point is the flight number shown on your confirmation:

Flight number prefixAirline to contact for check-in
SKSAS Scandinavian Airlines
LHLufthansa
SNBrussels Airlines
Any other airline codeThe airline that issued the ticket

SAS, Lufthansa and Brussels Airlines are named by CityJet among its client airlines; this list can change depending on the season and the contracts in place, so always check the code shown on your booking rather than the "operated by CityJet" label.

Check-in opening and closing times

The deadlines that apply are those of the airline that sold the ticket, not CityJet's. On the major European airlines that use CityJet's CRJ aircraft, online check-in generally opens the day before departure and most often closes less than an hour before takeoff on a European flight. These deadlines vary from one airline to another and sometimes by airport: the exact time is shown in your booking confirmation email or on the official website of the issuing airline.

At the airport, bag drop and check-in desks close noticeably earlier than the boarding gates on short-haul flights, and the margin is even wider on flights with a long connection or those outside the Schengen area. Allow plenty of time: regional flights often depart from remote stands served by bus, and boarding can close well before the scheduled departure time.

Boarding pass: format, checks and cabin baggage

Depending on the issuing airline, your boarding pass is sent by email, made available in its mobile app, or printed at the check-in desk. Some airlines and airports still require a paper version, particularly when exit or entry formalities call for a stamp: check with the airline that issued your ticket if your journey goes outside the Schengen area.

Keep a valid ID document on hand, either a national identity card or a passport depending on the destination, and check the documents required (visa, travel authorisation) with your airline before checking in, since certain checks can block the online issuance of your boarding pass.

On board, the CRJ regional jets operated by CityJet have narrower overhead bins than a standard short/medium-haul aircraft. Cabin bags that are accepted elsewhere are regularly taken at the boarding bridge or at the aircraft steps, at no extra charge, and returned on arrival. Plan ahead by keeping your valuables, medication and documents with you.

Cabin and hold baggage allowances, as well as any check-in fees charged at the desk, are set by the airline whose flight number is on your ticket. CityJet itself explicitly directs baggage and check-in questions to that airline.

Common issues and related airlines

Online check-in refused, unable to select a seat, boarding pass not arriving: in all these cases, the airline operating the flight on its network is the one to contact. CityJet states that it cannot handle passenger requests for flights operated on behalf of its client airlines, including cases of delay, cancellation or denied boarding, as these matters are handled by the issuing airline under the European regulation on air passenger rights.

One historical exception: flights under the CityJet brand itself, with flight numbers starting with "WX", operated until autumn 2018. For these older flights only, CityJet handled delays, cancellations and denied boarding directly, via the contact form on its website.

If your trip combines several regional carriers, check-in rules differ from one ticket to another: see also our pages on Aer Lingus check-in, Air Corsica flights, Binter to the Canary Islands and Carpatair. Once you have identified the issuing airline, you can hand your online check-in over to iBoardingPass, which completes it on your behalf as soon as check-in opens and sends your boarding pass by email.

Frequently asked questions

Can I check in on the CityJet website?

No. CityJet does not handle check-in for its flights: these are operated on behalf of client airlines, and check-in is done directly with the airline that issued the ticket, either on its website or at the airport.

My ticket says "operated by CityJet", who should I contact?

The airline whose code appears at the start of the flight number (for example SK for SAS). That airline manages the booking, check-in, baggage and any disruption cases.

When does check-in open for a flight operated by CityJet?

It depends on the issuing airline. On the major European airlines involved, check-in generally opens the day before departure. The exact time is shown on your booking confirmation.

Until when can I check in?

Online check-in most often closes less than an hour before departure on European flights, and airport desks close even earlier. Allow for the widest margin stated by your airline.

Will my cabin bag fit on a CRJ regional jet?

The CRJ aircraft operated by CityJet have narrower overhead bins than a standard short/medium-haul aircraft. Cabin bags are frequently taken at the boarding bridge and placed in the hold, then returned on arrival. Keep documents, medication and valuables with you.

Who compensates passengers for a delay or cancellation on a flight operated by CityJet?

The airline operating the flight on its network, for example SAS, Lufthansa or Brussels Airlines. Only older flights under the CityJet brand with flight numbers starting with "WX" were handled directly by CityJet.
