Ariana Afghan Airlines Boarding Pass and Check-In

Ariana Afghan Airlines operates from airports with reinforced security procedures, starting with Kabul (KBL). The time shown on your ticket or booking confirmation is the one that counts; follow it rather than any general rule.

A few benchmarks to stay on the safe side:

• International flights (Dubai, Delhi, Jeddah, Istanbul, Ankara, Moscow, Urumqi): arrive well ahead of time. The security checks required before entering Afghan terminals can take a considerable amount of time, on top of the time spent at the counter.
• Domestic flights (Herat, Kandahar, Mazar-e-Sharif): also allow a comfortable margin, as the counter closes before departure time.
• Once the counter has closed, acceptance is no longer possible, even with a paid ticket.

On connecting or chartered flights, as well as on mixed cargo routes, times may differ: check the exact time on your booking or with the Ariana sales office in your city, for example the general sales office in Dubai.

Ariana Afghan Airlines offers a My Account area on its website along with a Manage My Booking section, where the airline invites travellers to enter their booking reference and surname to view and print their flight information. There you will find your booking reference, its status and your flight details. The airline has also announced the availability of its mobile app, presented around three uses: discover, book, buy a ticket.

In practice, across Ariana's network, the boarding pass is issued at the airport counter, after passport and, where applicable, visa checks. Early online check-in, where open for a given route, does not exempt you from going to the counter if you have baggage to check in or if the airport requires a physical document verification.

A few useful points before you arrive:

• Bring the booking reference and surname exactly as they appear on the ticket.
• The passenger's name must match the passport; a spelling discrepancy should be corrected with the airline before departure day, not at the counter.
• Group bookings and charter flights are handled through specific arrangements with the airline, described in its Group Booking and Charter Flights sections.

The boarding pass issued by Ariana shows your name, flight number, gate, seat and boarding time. Keep it until you leave the arrival airport: it may be requested again at intermediate security checks, which are frequent in Kabul, as well as at the gate.

Documents to present when the boarding pass is issued:

Responsibility for entry formalities lies with the traveller: a missing visa or a passport whose remaining validity is deemed insufficient by the destination country results in denied boarding, and the airline cannot resolve this at the counter.

Checked baggage is dropped off at the same counter where the boarding pass is issued, and it closes at the same time. The allowance applicable depends on your fare and destination; details are given in the Baggage Info section of the airline's website and on your ticket.

Worth remembering:

• Baggage exceeding the allowance is paid for at the counter, at the excess baggage rate in force on the route concerned, before tags are printed.
• On the Dubai route, Ariana offers a CBBG ticket service (baggage occupying a cabin seat) intended for valuable goods such as gold or silverware; this type of transport must be booked in advance and cannot be arranged on the day of departure.
• Items intended for freight fall under the airline's cargo services, separate from accompanied baggage.

Be at the boarding gate as soon as the time printed on your pass arrives: a passenger absent at boarding may have their baggage offloaded. The website rejects my booking reference. Check that you are entering the Ariana booking code rather than the ticket number, and that the surname is entered without a first name. A ticket bought through an agency may only appear once fully issued.

I haven't received a boarding pass by email. On most Ariana flights, it is printed at the counter: this is the normal situation, not a fault.

I will arrive after the counter has closed. Call the Ariana sales office for your airport or city without delay. An unused ticket segment without prior notice can result in the loss of that segment and any following ones.

My flight has been delayed or cancelled. Ariana's schedules can change, particularly on seasonal and chartered routes. Check Flight Status on the airline's website before heading to the airport, and leave a reachable phone number on your booking.
