How to check in online, step by step
Aerolíneas Argentinas describes a short process, the same on computer and on mobile:
- enter the booking code and last name, exactly as shown on the reservation;
- review the itinerary, then read and accept the terms regarding items forbidden on board;
- select the passengers who are checking in and, if needed, complete contact details and personal information;
- choose a seat or change one already assigned;
- provide an email address to receive the electronic boarding pass with the QR code.
The Aerolíneas Plus membership number can be added at this stage. The airline also recommends keeping a contact email on file with the ticket, so passengers can be notified of any flight changes.
Who can check in online, and who cannot
The service is reserved for passengers holding an electronic ticket, on flights operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas, within a maximum number of passengers per booking set by the airline. It covers all of the airline's origins and destinations, except Havana (HAV).
Online check-in is not available, however, to the following travelers, according to the airline:
- those without a validated electronic ticket for the flight;
- those requiring special assistance;
- children traveling alone below the minimum age set by the airline;
- those on a waiting list, without a confirmed booking, or subject to availability;
- those with a courtesy ticket, or staff traveling on duty;
- Aerolíneas Plus members traveling with companions;
- those with a ticket requiring special verification;
- those departing on codeshare flights operated by another airline, within the flight number range specified by Aerolíneas Argentinas.
Boarding pass: mobile QR code or printed version
The electronic boarding pass arrives by email with its QR code. Aerolíneas Argentinas states that boarding with this QR code is possible from and to all of its destinations. If the QR code does not appear in the message, the airline asks passengers to print the boarding pass attached to the email. It can also be printed using the "Print boarding pass" option.
In every case, the boarding pass, whether electronic or printed, must remain available at each stage of the journey: check-in, boarding, and disembarkation.
At the airport: documents and baggage
Even with check-in completed in advance, one step remains mandatory: all passengers must have their documents checked before entering the security and immigration control area. On arrival at the airport, passengers must go to the check-in counters for this verification.
At boarding, the airline requires the boarding pass (QR code or printed), a valid travel document (national ID card and/or passport), and any documents required by the destination. For an international flight, Aerolíneas Argentinas recommends checking with the relevant embassy or consulate for the documents needed for the entire itinerary.
For checked baggage, drop-off on an international flight closes 120 minutes before departure. On routes between Argentina and Chile, in both directions, the airline has set a weight limit of 23 kg per piece: beyond that, the bag is not accepted and paying an excess baggage fee is not possible, transport being handled instead through the Cargo division, with advance notice and payment of the applicable fees.
Error or refusal during check-in
An error message during online check-in usually has a simple cause. Aerolíneas Argentinas lists three: a change of date and/or itinerary without revalidation of the electronic ticket, documentation that needs to be checked in person at the airport, or a passenger falling under one of the exceptions to online check-in. Check-in must then be done at the counter, within the timeframes set by the airline.
Travelers who prefer not to keep track of the check-in opening time can have it handled by iBoardingPass, which takes care of it automatically as soon as it opens and sends the boarding pass by email.
