Cyprus Airways: Check-in and Boarding Pass Guide
Cyprus Airways connects Larnaca to Greece, the Near East, the Gulf and several Western European cities, with the same check-in rules across the whole network but counter hours that vary from one airport to another. Online check-in opens 48 hours before departure and closes 3 hours before departure. Once that window has passed, everything happens at the counter, within a short time frame. This page sums up the deadlines, the boarding pass, the documents and the baggage to sort out before you travel.

When check-in opens and when it closes
Two schedules matter here, and they don't overlap entirely.
| Step | Deadline |
|---|---|
| Online check-in opens | 48 hours before departure |
| Online check-in closes | 3 hours before departure |
| Airport counters open | €50 |
| Airport counters close | €50 |
Counter hours vary depending on the destination and the departure airport: at some stops outside Cyprus, ground handling follows its own local rules and may close earlier. Check the exact time shown on your booking or your confirmation, and plan for the more cautious end of the range. On flights with tighter security checks, it's worth allowing extra time on arrival at the airport, even once you've already checked in.
Checking in online or through the app
Online check-in is done through the Check-in section of the Cyprus Airways website, using the booking reference and the passenger name exactly as they appear on the ticket. The Cyprus Airways app offers the same features: booking, checking in, tracking your flight in real time and keeping your boarding pass. Using the app isn't presented as mandatory: not mentioned as mandatory: the app allows you to book, check in and store your boarding pass, with no indication of obligation.
A few situations fall outside the online process and are handled at the counter or by phone through the call centre:
- codeshare flights, where the operating carrier's policy applies and check-in sometimes takes place on the other airline's website;
- unaccompanied minors, for whom assistance is arranged at departure and right up to the aircraft;
- passengers travelling with a pet, a guide dog or a special assistance request (online booking isn't possible with a guide dog; it goes through +357 24 00 00 53 instead);
- travel documents that need a physical check.
Seat selection and extra services depend on the fare purchased: the conditions are listed in the Fare Types and Ticket Options section of the airline's website.
The Cyprus Airways boarding pass
Once check-in is confirmed, the boarding pass stays available in the Cyprus Airways app, which lets you store it there. Some airports and some security checkpoints still ask for a paper copy: if you're unsure about your departure point, printing one saves a detour to the counter.
Check the name, flight number, gate indication and boarding time on the document, which comes well before the actual departure time. A spelling mistake on the name compared with the passport should be fixed before the flight through the Cyprus Airways call centre, not at the checkpoint.
If you have a bag to check in, the boarding pass doesn't exempt you from the bag drop counter, which follows the same opening and closing times as airport check-in.
Documents, baggage and getting through the airport
Cyprus applies border control rules: depending on nationality and destination (United Kingdom, Gulf, Israel, Lebanon), a valid passport and sometimes a visa are required, and documents are checked before boarding. The Travel Documents and Visas section of the airline's website covers the specific cases.
In the cabin, each passenger can bring one small personal item to stow under the seat, plus a cabin bag depending on the fare: Personal item: max 35×20×20cm; Economy Basic/Flex cabin baggage: 55×40×20cm; Business Flex: 55×40×20cm cm, weighing up to 10 kg. In the hold, the free allowance is 23 kg on fares that include a checked bag; on fares that don't, checked baggage is purchased separately. An oversized carry-on spotted at the gate has to go in the hold, so it's worth weighing and measuring before you leave home.
On a codeshare ticket, the rules of the airline actually operating the flight apply, including for baggage.
Common issues and solutions
Is online check-in rejecting your booking? This happens when the flight is operated by another airline, when the record includes a special service request, or when the name entered doesn't exactly match the ticket. In these cases, the counter remains the normal route.
If you go past the 3 hours before departure deadline, check-in happens at the airport, within the window shown above. A passenger who arrives after the counters have closed is treated as a no-show and loses their flight.
Can't find your boarding pass? Reopen the Check-in section with your booking reference to display it again, or find it in the app. The Cyprus Airways call centre can be reached at +357 24 00 00 53 and callcenter@cyprusairways.com for ticket changes, assistance requests and baggage claims.
If you'd rather not keep an eye on check-in opening times, iBoardingPass can check in online on your behalf as soon as it opens and send your boarding pass by email.
Other airlines serve the same routes from Larnaca, Athens or Paris, with different rules: Aegean check-in, Aer Lingus check-in, Aeroitalia's rules, Air Baltic boarding pass, Air Europa, how it works and checking in with Air France.
