Air Arabia Check-In: Times, Boarding Pass and Airport Rules

Air Arabia, together with its subsidiaries Air Arabia Maroc and Air Arabia Egypt, carries its low-cost model right through to its airport procedures: counters close early and do not reopen. Online check-in opens 48 hours before departure and closes 4 hours before departure, with the boarding pass issued at the end of the process. This page brings together the schedule, the cases where going to the airport is still required, and the most common hurdles for departures from Casablanca, Fes, Lyon, Marseille or Paris CDG.

When Air Arabia check-in opens and closes

Air Arabia's online check-in opens 48 hours before departure and closes 4 hours before departure. Once that window has passed, the booking shifts to the airport, with no exception possible through the website or the app.

At the airport, Air Arabia counters generally open 3 hours before departure. According to the airline's public information, check-in there closes 1 hour before departure for economy class, and 45 minutes before for business class passengers. Times can vary from one airport to another: check the exact time shown on your booking and plan to arrive well ahead during peak hours.

Online or via the app: what you'll need to provide

Check-in is done through the Air Arabia website or the Air Arabia mobile app. The form asks for the booking reference, passenger name, flight date and number, and the departure airport. Seat selection uses an interactive cabin map; premium seats, front rows and emergency exit seats aren't offered at this stage and must be reserved in advance.

If a seat was already booked at the time of purchase, it stays assigned during check-in, unless there's an aircraft change or an operational requirement.

Online check-in isn't mandatory with Air Arabia: a passenger who hasn't done it can go to the counter within the required time. It's still worth taking care of it as soon as it opens, since airport counters close early and queues can be long during peak times.

Air Arabia boarding pass: format and checks

Once check-in is complete, the boarding pass is issued immediately. Air Arabia states that it must be printed and shown at the airport: at some airports, a digital version on a phone isn't accepted. It's therefore best to travel with a printed copy.

If no boarding pass arrives after checking in, the airline explains this is due to additional checks or airport regulations that don't allow digital boarding passes. In that case, the document is collected at the airport check-in counter.

The pass shows the passenger's name, flight details, gate number, seat number and boarding time. Your travel documents, along with those required by the immigration authorities of the departure and destination countries, still need to be shown at the counter and at the gate, together with the boarding pass.

At the airport: baggage drop and dedicated counters

A traveller who has checked in online and is travelling without luggage can go straight to boarding, without stopping at the check-in counter.

With checked luggage, going through the counter is still required: Air Arabia directs passengers who checked in online to the baggage drop counters, where tags are issued before heading to the boarding gate. Paid baggage is added to the booking through the airline's baggage add-on option; the terms depend on the fare purchased.

In the UAE, the airline also offers city check-in (Sharjah, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah), up to 36 hours before the flight, as well as home check-in for departures from Abu Dhabi. These services apply only to the departures mentioned by the airline.

Check-in not working: the most common reasons

Several situations explain why Air Arabia online check-in might be refused:

  • The departure airport isn't open for online check-in. The airline states that the service covers most of its destinations, but that some airports, particularly new destinations, aren't yet activated. In that case, go straight to the airport. The service has been announced for departures from Morocco and for European cities such as Lyon, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Paris CDG, Brussels, Amsterdam, Milan Bergamo, Bologna, Naples, Pisa, Venice, London Gatwick and Spain.
  • The window is closed: before 48 hours before departure or after 4 hours before departure, the system won't issue a boarding pass.
  • The details entered don't match the booking (booking reference, name spelled as it appears on the passport, flight number, origin airport).
  • The booking requires additional checks, which sends the passenger to the airport counter.

For a flight bought through an agency or tour operator, the Air Arabia booking reference may differ from the agency's own reference: it's the airline's reference that's needed. Travellers who would rather not keep track of the opening time themselves can hand over their check-in to iBoardingPass, an independent, paid service unaffiliated with airlines that covers more than 227 carriers. It carries out online check-in on the traveller's behalf, automatically, as soon as the airline's check-in opens, and sends the boarding pass by email.

Frequently asked questions

Is online check-in mandatory with Air Arabia?

No. Air Arabia leaves the choice between online check-in and the airport counter, which generally opens 3 hours before departure. Keep in mind, though, that online check-in closes 4 hours before departure and counters close around 1 hour before departure in economy class.

How far in advance can you check in with Air Arabia?

Online check-in opens 48 hours before departure and stays available until 4 hours before departure. After that, only the airport counter can issue the boarding pass, within its own closing time.

Does online check-in work for Air Arabia Maroc (Casablanca, Fes, Nador, Tangier)?

Yes, departures from Morocco are among the airports announced by the airline for online check-in. If your airport doesn't appear when entering your details, it isn't activated yet and check-in will need to be done at the counter.

Why doesn't my airport show up in the list?

According to Air Arabia, some airports aren't yet activated for online check-in, particularly on new destinations where procedures are still being finalised. In that case, go straight to the airport to check in.

Do I need to print my Air Arabia boarding pass?

The airline asks passengers to print the boarding pass received after online check-in and present it at the airport. Some airports don't accept digital boarding passes, so a paper copy remains the safest option.

I checked in online but have hold luggage: do I still need to go to the counter?

Yes. Head to the baggage drop counter set aside for passengers who checked in online to hand over your suitcase and collect your tags, then proceed to the boarding gate. Without luggage, you can go straight to boarding.

Can you choose your seat during Air Arabia check-in?

Yes, a seat map is offered during online check-in, but front-row seats and emergency exit seats don't appear there: they must be pre-booked in advance. A seat already reserved online stays assigned to you, unless there's an aircraft change or an operational requirement.

What happens if I arrive after check-in closes at the airport?

Air Arabia asks passengers to reach the check-in counter within the specified times: check-in closes around 1 hour before departure in economy class and 45 minutes before in business class. A passenger arriving after this deadline must check with the airline about the conditions for changing their flight. Check the exact time shown on your booking.
